Re: Dooley Couple
[Scans|Trans] CNBLUE for TV Station Magazine
*TV Station is a Japanese entertainment & TV program info magazine.
Q: CNBLUE’s favorite Japanese musician??
YongHwa : X JAPAN, L’Arc~en Ciel
JongHyun : Tomoyasu Hotei (one of bands in “Music&Beard Festival” on Aug 27), BUMP OF CHICKEN
MinHyuk : GReeeeN
JungShin : ONE OK ROCK, ELLEGARDEN
Q. How do you feel about your major debut in japan?
YongHwa: Even after major debut, our feeling for music won’t change, we want to keep on having the same passion as before. And we want to try to play various sounds and want to improve our skills.
JongHyun: This is the new start for us. We feel so happy because this is a good chance for our music to be listened by many people in Japan. Even more than before.
Q. Major debut song ‘In My Head’ was composed by YongHwa, right?
YongHwa: Yes. Actually I made this song long ago. After that, I keep on modifying it little by little and listened to it again and again, we had reasons to cherish this song. So when we debut in Japan, we choose this song.
Q. How are you in your dorm life?
JungShin: Me, if anyone doesn’t clean our dorm, I will do it by myself..alone. I’m that kind of a man.
YongHwa: (Joking) JungShin is a like our little servant. (all members laughed and clapped)
MinHyuk: YongHwa hyung & JongHyun hyung are the type of that don’t care about others. But sometimes they come to our room and play. After they get tired, they go away.
YongHwa: MinHyuk always closed his room’s door, he didn’t go out at all.
JungShin: (big nod!) MinHyuk is an outsider (laugh)
Q. What are your aims for your Japan activities?
MinHyuk:I want to be a band, one which when everyone hears our song, they immediately know that it is CNBLUE’s song.
YongHwa: I want to perform at Arena Tour or Tokyo Dome someday.
JungShin:I want to share our music to many people, to play live performances & to release many albums.
JongHyun: I want to do all things that we won’t regret if we look back later in the future.
Editor’s eye:
We reporters felt that their best attraction is their good friendly manners.
They look like real brothers because they have been living together.
When they are taking photos, they gather at same place naturally, together, in a short time.
During the interview, they all sat on one sofa closely to each other, it was avery charming sight.
They had many skinship too, JungShin did his hair and touch YongHwa face, at the same time YongHwa was patting MinHyuk‘s head (laugh).
MinHyuk & JongHyun were reading the same magazine & laughing together.
They had cool faces during their performances, but it was really attractive to see their natural faces and smiling like little boys.

[News] CNBLUE Ranks #3 on Daily Oricon with “In My Head” on their Debut
Posted on October 21, 2011 by cr: Lyna4u
On October 19, the Burning, Lovely, Untouchable, and Emotional members of CNBLUE made a successful Japanese major label debut with their debut single “In My Head” under Warner Music Japan. The group garnered much interest with “In My Head” even before its official release when fans found out that the band’s leader Jung Yong Hwa wrote the song himself.
It seems as though the group’s newest song struck a chord with the Japanese audience. “In My Head” proudly claimed the number three spot on the Daily Oricon Chart on the day of its release. CN Blue recorded a first day sale of a 34,280. Netizens have been impressed by the group’s performance, particularly of the fact that the band’s sales exceeded that of the sales of one of the most popular Korean girls groups currently promoting in Japan: Kara. The girls were number four on the chart on this day.
CN Blue’s album sales are especially impressive for another reason. In comparison to the album sales of other Korean groups who reached the number one spot of the Daily Oricon with their debut singles, CN Blue’s sales are noticeably greater. T-ara and MBLAQ had both ranked number one with their debut singles with sales recording, 20,068 and 11,066, respectively. CN Blue’s sales are greater than the sales both groups combined.
It was also announced well before the song’s official release that “In My Head” would be used as the ending theme song of the anime “Supernatural: The Animation.” The anime is scheduled to air within the month.
Lastly, as a means of celebrating the band’s major label debut, as well as thanking the fans for their unending support, CN Blue held a live guerrilla performance on October 19 at Shinjuku Alta in Tokyo. Regardless of the lack of prior announcement, over 7,000 fans flocked to the area to get a glimpse of the band members. Unfortunately, due to safety reasons, the performance had to be prematurely terminated only after a mere three minutes. The band was only able to perform one song.
In response to their performance on the Daily Oricon, the CN Blue members stated, “We were very anxious because it was our major label debut single, but when we heard that we were number three, while we felt happy, at the same time we also thought that there was still a long way for us to go. We don’t want to be any different from when we were an indies band, and want to continue to work hard for the fans who support us.”

[Interviews|Trans] CNBLUE in Flying Postman Press

FLYING POSTMAN PRESS Vol.135
Theme: SMILE
Introduction
CNBLUE is an established rock band from Korea, they have great popularity in Japan too. Recently, they concluded their Japanese indies activities at Yokohama Arena, and finally they had their major debut single “In My Head” on October 19. Their music has catchiness like Maroon 5 & the heaviness like Linkin Park. This band’s music sense of scale is far beyond than just a K-POP group. J-Rock bred hybrid sound will attracts Japan, and the world too —-.
Page 1
‘Step by step, we aimed to make major debut’
– Why did you want to be a band in Japan?
JS: One of the reasons is because Japan has a well-developed band culture. There are many favorite bands. We wanted to compete with them as a band, so step by step we aimed to have our major debut here (as a band). So we are really happy now.
– Why did you feel attracted to the Japanese music scene?
YH: It is different from Korea, there are unique colors in it. Especially the indies scene, right?
JH: and there are many live houses, there are many unique bands. I feel that the Japanese bands are really enjoying their music. We were studying in Japan for six months, we’ve been playing at many small live houses, we were many inspired from the bands who played together at that time.
– Your average age is 20 years old, did you aim to be a professional band when you were first formed?
YH: Yes. we want to be professionals, we started towards being the professionals.
Page 2
‘We performed Opening Act for Linkin Park Japan Tour, I was really impressed at that time’
– So why did you start music?
JS: When I was in junior high school, my friend introduced me to Mr. Big. I felt that “To Be With You” is really good song, then i wanted to play the music. I wanted to play many various instruments, but I was very attracted to that heavy sound, so I began to play bass. I yearn to be like Mr. Big’s Billy Sheehan or Jaco Pastorius as a bassist.
YH: When I was in elementary school I listened to Bon Jovi. I wanted to sing like Jon Bon Jovi, so I practiced singing so hard. I had impact also when I met Linkin Park in junior high. We performed as the Opening Act for Linkin Park Japan Tour this year, and I was really impressed at that time. So then..it would the best if we could play with Bon Jovi too in the future (laugh).
– I’m looking forward to that day (laugh). By the way, YongHwa-san’s guitar is Gretsch White Falcon, who inspired you to it?
YH: Actually, it is from the manga “BECK” (laugh). I saw it when I was looking for a guitar which would symbolize myself, then I tried to play it, and it sounded really good.
JH: I was the one who suggested “BECK” to him!
YH: I just remembered (laugh). But this White Falcon looks like a little luxurious, it’s perfect for me, right (laugh)? ..sorry, just kidding (laugh).
– (laugh). Do you two often talk about the guitar?
JH: Yes, often. I also like Bon Jovi, when I listen to Richie Sambora’s guitar, I thought that I wanted to play in a band.
–Those are your similarities. Is there anyone else?
JH: When I listened to Eric Clapton, I was attracted to the guitar. After that, I knew John Mayer etc, more and more I drawn into it, especially i became to love of Blues.
Page 3
‘”In My Head” has a modern taste plus contemporary essence, I think it finishes off with fresh feeling’
–I think Jonghyun-san’s guitar ability really expressed such taste. How about Minhyuk-san?
MH: I was learning classical piano since kindergarten up till junior high. After that, I listen to music and with friends and began going to watch the live, at that time I listened Maroon 5 music, so I was interested in bands. It was then I started playing drums.
– Classical piano and drums, you’re like YOSHIKI of X JAPAN!
MH: YOSHIKI san is the best drummer I think!
YH: It is good. ENDLESS RAIN~♪ (started to sing)
JH: (laugh)
YH: I like L’Arc~en~Ciel too. I came to like “GTO” anime, because they sang the theme song.
– The different cultures are mixed, forming their knowledge of music.
YH: I think so. We listen to various kinds of music without limiting the genres, it has influenced our sound and it is also became our strength. I think it will really be expressed in our songs from now.
JS: For example, “In My Head” has a modern taste, plus contemporary essence, it finished with fresh feeling I think.
YH: When I listen to this “In My Head”, I feel a rush of sensation in my body. I think such energy is transmitted to everyone who listened to it.
JS: And “Mr.KIA (Know It All)” is rhythmical and groovy. “Rain of Blessing” is a ballad written by Jonghyun with a romantic feel.
YH: I’m studying the music equipment and arrangements, because I want to show the various expressions in our band sound (music). In this song we finished with another instrument, what we used to play always, like a synthesizer. I really enjoy creating a sound like that.
Page 4
‘We keep developing more and more, we want everyone to be touched by our future songs and live’
– The title song “In My Head” is especially a large scale song, like it’s targeted to the world music scene rather than Japan.
JH: Our dream is to be the No.1 on Billboard! Now, it is not just a dream, we are working towards it for real.
JS: I think it is possible!
YH: To that end, I think we always have to show that we are evolving. We want to show more and more, far beyond the expectations of everyone who support us.
JS: To do so, together, we each have to raise up our skills as musicians, and we need to keep time with us. I think it is important.
MH: No doubt. To express our music and do performances better, it is important that we work hard together.
– Lastly, please give a message to your fans that support you in Japan.
YH: Thank you so much for always supporting us. When we were in indie scene, we were studying and working. But after this major debut, we want to show you our profesional activities more. Then, we will keep developing more and more, we want our future songs and live to be felt by everyone. Please expect a lot from us!
—-
THE STORY about ‘SMILE’
JS: To me, the first one is playing music live. Playing is fun for me & seeing audience smile makes me smile too. And GyuDon (laugh)! We have been eating it since the first time we came to Japan, it is delicious!
YH: When ‘In My Head’ finished I was very happy so I smiled a lot. And Japanese ramen (laugh). It always makes me smile when I add in rice or noodles.
JH: I like Japanese Onigiri (rice bowl). It has various tastes, my favorite is Mentaiko (raw cod eggs with chili) the most. If there’s one in front of me now, I think I would eat it right after this interview, it makes me smile instantly (laugh).
MH: We are living together, we are not bored (with each other) even though we have stayed together for so long. Especially Jungshin, he always makes me laugh. If I face a little hardship, I smile just because he is there.

Re: Dooley Couple
CNBLUE guerilla concert interrupted by Japanese police
The boys of CNBLUE who are slowly beginning to dominate in Japan were recently met with an unexpected and embarrassing situation. Japanese news source Sankei Sports reported on the boys’ recent performance that was suddenly halted by the local police.
CNBLUE held a secret live performance (guerilla concert) at Shinjuku Station Square in Tokyo on the 19th, and although the performance was unannounced with no promotions, a busy crowd of 7,000 still showed up to the concert. The number of fans exceeded CNBLUE’s own expectations, and it was the first time a new artist in Japan gathered a crowd that large for such an event.
However, they faced some issues not even five minutes into the show. Shortly after the boys finished performing their Japanese debut song ‘”In My Head“, the Shinjuku police arrived on the scene. The police determined that it was considered a safety hazard for so many people to be gathered in one small place without prior notice, and they were instructed to halt the show at once.
The boys who were planning to sing three songs total could only finish one before they were interrupted, and leader Jung Yong Hwa remarked, “The safety of our fans is most important. We will see you guys at Saturday’s show“, and waved to the audience. The rather organized and orderly show ironically became disordered and out of hand once the police arrived, as the fans began screaming to see more of CNBLUE.
CNBLUE released their major debut song “In My Head” on the 19th. They performed it for the first time at Yokohama Arena on the 25th of last month and were highly praised for their musical talents.
